Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were responsible for a lot of bloodshed throughout Sri Lanka during 33 years of military aggression with a goal to create Tamil state in the north and east of the island. Until their ultimate defeat on May 16, 2009, LTTE militants killed thousands of people through suicide bombing which they are believed to be the pioneers of. LTTE suicide bombers included women and children.
These pictures are from the suicide attack conducted by an LTTE militant on October 6, 2008 in Sri Lankan city of Anuradhapura. The explosion killed at least 25 people, among which were the opposition leader of the North-Central provincial council – Major General Janaka Perera and his wife, the manager of the United National Party of Sri Lanka in Anuradhapura – Dr. John Pulle and his wife, several councilors of the United National Party and some other people.
The blast also injured more than 90 civilians and destroyed the office of the United National Party near the Old Bus Stand in Anuradhapura. Major General Janaka Perera was the most notable person killed in the attack, being the opposition leader of the North Central Provincial Council.
